I made these after my kid asked for a spooky Halloween dessert that looked “gross but good.” Honestly, that was the whole brief.
They’re Oreo dirt pudding cups with gummy worms and cookie tombstones. No baking, no drama, no tiny pastry degree required.
They’re my go-to easy Halloween party dessert when I need Halloween desserts in a cup. Kids destroy them in minutes.

- Make the Tombstones: Use the black decorating icing to write “RIP” on each Milano cookie. Allow the icing to set for a few minutes.1 tube black decorating icing, 12 Milano cookies

- Add the First Layer: Divide about half of the pudding mixture among the 12 clear cups.

- Add the Oreo Dirt: Sprinkle about half of the crushed Oreo cookies evenly over the pudding.

- Repeat the Layers: Divide the remaining pudding mixture among the cups, then finish each one with the remaining Oreo crumbs.
- Decorate the Cups: Press one decorated Milano cookie into each cup to resemble a tombstone. Add gummy worms and candy pumpkins as desired.Gummy worms, Candy pumpkins
- Chill and Serve: Keep the dirt cups refrigerated until ready to serve. For the best texture, add the Milano tombstones and candy decorations shortly before serving.
- Storage: Cover the undecorated cups and refrigerate them for up to 3 days. Once decorated, the cups can still be refrigerated, but the Milano cookies will gradually soften.
Halloween Graveyard Dirt Cups: Because Pudding Needed a Costume
These little cups are hard to mess up, but I’ve still found ways to make them easier. Consider this the shortcut-heavy version of experience.

Keep the Pudding Thick
Use cold milk straight from the refrigerator and give the pudding enough time to set before folding in the whipped topping. Warm milk makes the mixture loose, and nobody wants a tombstone slowly sinking into chocolate soup.
Do Not Overmix the Whipped Topping
Fold it in gently instead of attacking it with a whisk. A few slow turns keep the filling fluffy and stop it from becoming sad, flat pudding.
Crush the Cookies the Lazy Way
A food processor makes perfect crumbs, but a zip-top bag and rolling pin work just as well. I usually leave a few slightly larger pieces because real dirt is not uniformly ground by a pastry chef.
Swap the Cookies Without Starting a Debate
Any chocolate sandwich cookie works in place of Oreos. For the tombstones, use Milano cookies, rectangular shortbread cookies, or even graham crackers if that is what survived in the pantry.
Change the Pudding Flavor
Chocolate looks the most like dirt, but cookies-and-cream or dark chocolate pudding also works. Vanilla pudding technically works too, although your graveyard may look like it was built on a beach.
Make Them Ahead
Prepare the pudding layers up to two days in advance and keep the cups covered in the refrigerator. Add the cookie tombstones, gummy worms, and candy pumpkins shortly before serving so they stay firm instead of turning mysteriously chewy.

Use Smaller Cups for Parties
Four- to six-ounce clear cups are usually enough, especially when other desserts are involved. People claim they want a huge serving until they see the rest of the Halloween table.
Keep the Tombstones Standing
Push each cookie only partway into the pudding and place it close to the back edge of the cup. If the filling feels too soft, chill the assembled cups for another 15 minutes before decorating.
Skip the Piping Bag
A large spoon works perfectly for filling the cups, but a zip-top bag with one corner snipped off keeps the sides cleaner. This matters only if you care about neat layers, and on Halloween, messy dirt is conveniently on theme.
Store Leftovers Properly
Cover the cups and refrigerate them for up to three days. The pudding will still taste good after that, but the cookie crumbs and tombstones will get softer with each passing hour, much like everyone after a Halloween party.
