I started making this BBQ chicken version after one Friday takeout pizza showed up cold. I took that personally.
A naan pizza with BBQ sauce gets crisp, cheesy, and done before anyone asks what’s for dinner. Bless that tiny shortcut.
Now it’s my family pizza night backup when I need easy pizza fast. Nobody complains, which is suspicious.

BBQ Chicken Naan Flatbread Pizza for When Dinner Needs to Stop Being So Needy
This is the kind of recipe where small choices make a big difference. Also, yes, we are absolutely letting naan do the heavy lifting.

Use Garlic Naan If You Can Find It
Plain naan works fine, but garlic naan brings extra flavor before you even open the barbecue sauce. That is the kind of low-effort upgrade I fully support. Just watch the edges in the oven because naan can go from golden to “well, that’s rustic” pretty quickly.
Pick a Barbecue Sauce With Some Backbone
A sweet barbecue sauce is great, but one with a little smoke or tang keeps the whole thing from tasting like candy pizza. If your sauce is super sweet, add a tiny splash of apple cider vinegar or a pinch of red pepper flakes. Tiny adjustment, big “I meant to do that” energy.
Rotisserie Chicken Is Your Best Friend Here
Leftover grilled chicken, roasted chicken, or rotisserie chicken all work beautifully. I usually use whatever is already cooked because starting from raw chicken on a flatbread night feels like missing the entire point. This recipe is not here to test your character.
Go Easy on the Sauce
Barbecue sauce is bold, sticky, and very confident. Spread enough to cover the naan, but do not drown it or the middle can get soft. A crispy bottom is the difference between pizza and sadness with toppings.
Cheese Goes Under and Over
A little cheese under the chicken helps everything stick, and more cheese on top makes it melt into the toppings. Cheddar jack is great, but mozzarella, Monterey Jack, or a pizza blend all work if that is what you have. The fridge cheese drawer is not a courtroom. Use what makes sense.
Slice the Onion Thin
Red onion is perfect here because it cuts through the sweet barbecue sauce, but thick pieces can take over fast. Slice it thin so it softens in the oven instead of bullying the whole pizza. If raw onion is not your thing, use green onions after baking.
Bacon Is Optional, But Let’s Be Honest
You can skip the bacon and still have a solid dinner. But if you have a few cooked strips hanging around, chop them up and throw them on because smoky, salty bacon with barbecue chicken is not exactly a risky decision. It is basically cheating, but the legal kind.
Add Pineapple If Your House Allows That Debate
Pineapple works really well with barbecue sauce and chicken, especially if you like that sweet-savory thing. Use small pieces and do not overload the naan, unless you enjoy watching people at the table suddenly develop very strong pizza opinions.
Make It Spicy Without Starting a Family Incident
A few jalapeño slices, hot honey, or red pepper flakes can wake everything up. Start small, especially if kids are eating, because there is nothing relaxing about turning dinner into a water-drinking competition.
Crisp the Naan First for Extra Insurance
If your naan feels soft or thick, bake it plain for 3 to 4 minutes before adding toppings. It helps the center stay firm once the sauce and cheese go on. This is the move when you want the bottom crisp, not politely bendy.

Do Not Overload the Toppings
Naan is sturdy, but it is not a trampoline. Too much chicken, cheese, onion, and sauce can make the middle heavy and soft. Keep everything scattered in an even layer so each slice holds together without needing emotional support.
Finish With Cilantro After Baking
Cilantro is best added at the end so it stays fresh and bright. If cilantro tastes like soap to someone in your house, use sliced green onions or a little parsley instead. No need to start a dinner table controversy over herbs.
Reheat It the Right Way
Use the oven or air fryer at 375°F until the cheese melts and the edges crisp back up. The microwave is fine if you are desperate, but the naan will soften. The microwave gives speed, not dignity.
Store Leftovers Without Creating a Cheese Situation
Let the slices cool first, then store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. If you stack them, put parchment paper between layers so the cheese does not glue everything together like a craft project gone wrong.
Turn It Into Party Food
Cut the naan pizzas into small squares or strips and suddenly they become an appetizer. This works especially well for game night, casual guests, or any situation where people say they “just want a bite” and then eat six.
